What is Lean 101?

I have looked on the website, but what exactly does this course teach?

Lean 101 teaches the 5 Principles of Lean Thinking (originating from the Toyota Production System). These principles can be applied in any business, and in home life as well.

How long is the course?

The course is about 5 hours in length and can be done on any computer, at any time, and any where.

Question from Design Engineering Magazine

Our magazine is focused on the design/engineering/machine building aspect of the industry, so how is this course relevant or useful for that segment of the workforce?

This course will identify with your customers the current challenges in business.  It first gets them to sit back and LOOK at what they are doing. Then it will guide them to identify WASTEFUL activities in their own job.  About 95% of their activities will be considered WASTE from their customers perspective.  YES, 95%. After they recognize this, they can do something about eliminating this waste.

How advanced is the course?
The "101" suggests it is a basic intro to the principles of lean manufacturing, but how does it go a step further than what someone could find in Wikipedia or on the Lean 101 website?

This course uses real life situations. By looking at real people describe their real problems, it helps the student recognize how similar their situation is.

For example, the engineering department at Princess Auto (designing cylinders) used the techniques outlined here and reduced their bills of materials from 650 to 125, which means that the maintenance of these bills is reduces by that percentage -  ANNUALLY.
