"A very informative
and practical course. Provided a good understanding of lean
manufacturing and some of the
tools used to implement it."

The building industry can change
itself by rethinking the fundamentals of its delivery processes.
- A Lean Production process should
be organized so that at all points decisions are made with the needs
of the customer are paramount, instead of being organized according
to perceived production constraints and the needs of the producers.
- This leads to a rigorous scrutiny
of the value stream - the incremental adding of value to what will
become the final product.
- This includes greater involvement
of the labour force, a greater diversity of skills possessed by
individuals, and the overturning of many of the assumptions of mass
production.
- The potential relationship between
lean construction and sustainability suggested by such an inclusive
idea of the customer is reinforced by other aspects of the lean
philosophy.
- The elimination of waste, the
responsiveness of the process and the economies that result from
it.
- It has been shown in advanced
manufacturing that increased time put into design "at the front
end" of the process (including design of the process itself)
greatly increases the quality of the product and the efficiency
and economy of its delivery.
